NEW YORK (AP) -- We have video calls. And of course we're using computers nearly all the time. But how about the jet pack? Well, that's one mode of transportation that didn't get off the ground. The New York World's Fair opened 50 years ago today. Visitors got a glimpse of the future, as envisioned by the corporate giants that had pavilions. We don't have a colony on the moon as predicted by General Motors' Futurama exhibit. But the computing power of your smartphone far exceeds anything forecast at the fair. Ryan Ritchey is a filmmaker making a documentary about the fair. He says the big difference is people then had far grander visions of the future than we do today.


YPSILANTI TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- That's a whole lot of Rosies. The Guinness people are recognizing a new World Record for the most Rosie the Riveters gathering in one place. That was at the Michigan plant where World War II bombers were produced by the thousands. The Willow Run Bomber Plant is also where Rosie the Riveter worked, as women joined the workforce to help in the war effort. Guinness confirms that 778 "Rosies" were at the site on March 29. The record attempt is part of the effort to save the plant and convert it into a museum.


DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Lucey is a slobbering beauty. She's an 18-month-old pooch, who takes the "Beautiful Bulldog" title. The canine pageant is the kick off to the Drake Relays, the track and field meet in Des Moines, Iowa. Lucey beat out 49 drooling competitors. Owner Dr. Tiffany Torstenson says Lucey is very calm and loves people. Torstenson is a breast surgeon and she often takes Lucey to work. Dr. Torstenson says Lucey would make a good therapy dog to help reassure patients.


UPPER DARBY, Pa. (AP) -- Don't you just hate it when you forget your keys? Well, police in Pennsylvania report nabbing a robber who returned to the scene of the crime to look for his lost keys. According authorities, 19-year-old Cordell Kelly attacked a woman for her designer purse. Investigators at the scene found a keychain that had Kelly's address on it. An officer waited in an unmarked car. Police say Kelly showed up and was busted. Police officials in Upper Darby tell the Philadelphia Daily News they also found the missing purse in Kelly's house.
