Wedding Week Trends: Cake

If you are planning a wedding you know how important the budget can be! I recently talked with celebrity cake designer Jay Qualls about finding the perfect cake for the big day! He told me the SECRET that all brides should know. He is now working up cakes that are for display during the wedding with only one layer being a "real" edible cake! That layer is there for the picture of the bride and groom cutting the cake. Then the cake is plated from a cake in the back. Her is the best part, your guests have an incredible slice of butter cream frosted cake without having to eat fondant. Also, you have time to plate the cake before hand so guests will have a beautiful piece of cake instead of one that is hastily cut up and slapped on to a plate. It's an awesome option that will save time and money AND let you have the cake of your dreams!

If you are going to be a bank robber... or a car theif... don't brag about getting away with it on youtube. In Nebraska... a 19 year old girl steals a car, robs a bank and makes a video.  She was arrested and the video will be used as evidence against her. Duh.

Here is a pick me up for you on this Tuesday. We have so much happening in the World that sometimes it is easy to feel down. Here is a site that featured several random acts of kindess. If you feel so inspired... go for it!

Cinnabon Cookies, Geek Gifts, Christmas Keepsakes

Nothing tops of a speedwalking session at the mall like a Cinnabon. I tease. I don't power walk... but I do love some Cinnabon. I am convinced they pipe the smell through the vents so you can't escape it. Well... here is a taste of Cinnabon in a cookie form.

Black Friday Shoppers are about to get serious. If you don't have a game plan, you need one.

One dessert that isn't just pie. It's pumpkin all right... but it's more! I am not a fan of pumpkin pie. At All. I pretty much eat the whipped cream off the top and a bite of the crust. BUT I do love pumpkin... So I found a cupcake to die for. Cream cheese filled pumpkin cupcakes. HOORAY!

Cat found after 6 days, Fake Black Friday Sites, "Handheld" Fried Pies

If you saw the pictures of what was left of the homes in Indianapolis after a strange blast... you will be amazed at this story...

A cat named Gidget is found alive 6 days after the blast. The cat belongs to the neighbors of the home that was destroyed. The roof was blown off the house and the owners and one of their daughters were trapped immediately following the blast. They couldn't find their cat. Gidget was found hiding behind the couch 6 days later. The cat is okay!

 

I am telling you all the sites to visit...but these are some you need to be aware of as we head into Black Friday. There are some "phishing" scams out there now for fraudulant Black Friday Sites.

Do Not open any email that says "Black Friday" unless you signed up for it!

And if you want to make a dessert that is just "handy" this Thanksgiving.. individual pies are the way to go! This recipe has you making the best "fried pies" out there.

It has become a Halloween tradition for us here on TN Mornings. www.jibjab.com It just never gets old to see your head on a crazy dancing body.  When you log on make sure you look for the "Free" versions. Otherwise you have to sign up for a subscription.  It's $12 a year, so it's not very expensive, but there are some fun ones on there for free.

Crock Pot Coffee Cake

I love anything made in the crock pot.  I had no idea that you could do breads in one??

Crock Pot Coffee Cake

You do have to do a little prep work, grease the 4 quart put parchment paper to fit the bottom of the crock pot.  That will help after the bread is cooked to keep it from sticking.  You will also layer the mixture with a streusel topping.  YUM!

It definitely brings another use for the beloved Crock Pot.

Pumpkin Spice Latte Recipe (At Home Starbucks)

Okay... I have another amazing recipe from Starbucks for you today.

This is truly my favorite "coffee" drink from the coffee giant.

And here is a site that my fb friend Deborah Corey shared with me!

This recipe makes two regular coffee cup sized lattes...

Brew your favorite type of coffee and make it strong if you like that coffee flavor.

add pumpkin puree to half a cup of milk. Add brown sugar, vanilla extract and pumpkin pie spice.

Whisk it all together.

Microwave it... Pour it into a tall mug.

Add the coffee...and top it with a little half and half.

Add a teaspoon of sugar, stir.

Top with Whipcream and sprinkle with nutmeg.

YUM!

Did I mention this is NOT fat free?

One of my all time favorite drinks at Starbucks in the Caramel Apple Spice! LOVE IT!

Nothing says fall like that drink.

You will need apple juice, Cinnamon Dolce Syrup (buy it at starbucks for about $7), and Caramel sauce. You can also buy this at Starbucks or at the store for a cheaper version.

12 oz of Apple Juice, Three pumps of Cinnamon Syrup and Caramel sauce. Microwave it.

This is how it works.   You sleep in cycles... and a normal sleep cycle is 90 mins.  You have 5 stages of sleep.  If you wake up during one of those cycles you won't feel as rested as if you woke up in between cycles.

So, if you need to get up at 6 am... the sleep calculator says you sould go to sleep at 9, 10:30 , 12:00 or 1:30.  If you do this you will be waking up in between sleep cycles.
It's a good concept and some people swear it works. Give this a try...

Pumpkin Crunch Cake

I don't like to see Summer come to an end, but I do love Fall!  So, in an effort not to mourn the endless Summer nights... here is a site with recipe that will have you loving the fall!www.thepickyapple.com
Check out the recipe for pumpkin crunch cake.I have to admit I am not a fan of pumpkin pie... but I do like the flavor of pumpkin and this along with the cream cheese in the mix will definitely be one I want to try.
Ingredients:
    1 box yellow cake mix    1 can (15 oz) pumpkin puree    1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk    3 large eggs    1 1/2 cups sugar    1 tsp. cinnamon    1/2 tsp. salt    1 1/2 cups chopped pecans (the original recipe called for 1/2 cup)    1 cup butter, melted
Heat oven to 350 degrees F.  Grease bottom of 9 x 13 pan.  Mix pumpkin, milk, eggs, sugar, cinnamon, and salt.  Pour mixture into greased pan.  Sprinkle dry cake mix over pumpkin mixture and top with pecans.  Drizzle melted butter over pecans.  Bake 50-55 minutes.

Super Secret Sweet Tea Recipe

If you are from the South or if you have lived here for a while, you understand the importance of sweet tea.   Or should I say, GOOD sweet tea.  If you are not from around here, there is one thing you should know... sweet tea is NOT just tea with sugar added to it after it is brought to your table.
It must be made with love and lots of sugar.  Well, I have found what claims to be the best sweet tea recipe complete with a "secret" ingredient.

The lady who runs this site used to work at a Texas restaurant that had phenominal tea.She kept the secret to herself, until the restaurant closed.  Now she is sharing it...
5 - 8  Family size Tea Bags. (or 12 regular Tea Bags)                     1 Quart  (4 Cups) - Boiling Water3 Quarts (12 cups) - Cool Water1 1/2 - 2 (one & a half) - Cups Sugar. 1/4 teaspoon - Baking Soda (this IS the SECRET Ingredient!!)
1.  Sprinkle baking soda into a pitcher.  Add Tea bags to the pitcher/baking soda, Pour Boiling water over tea bags, Cover and allow to steep for 15 minutes.              2.  Remove and toss out Tea Bags,     Add Sugar and Stir until completely dissolved.      Add Cool Water.     Refrigerate until cold and ready to drink.     3.  Serve over ice,      Take a nice long sip.     Swoon.     Repeat.

Beer, Meat & Ketchup Meatballs

Cooking shouldn't  be hard... but many times it is something that seems like a chore instead of something fun.
Here is a site that breaks it all down to make it easy...


I think this site is more of a guys site because it is about the science of cooking.  No pretty pictures or frilly fonts.  Just easy food recipes.  Check this out...
 Beer and Ketchup Meatballs.  (This recipe will be exhibit A to prove this is a guys site)
Ingredients
1 (28 ounce) bottle ketchup
24 fluid ounces beer
1 1/2 pounds ground beef
2 teaspoons garlic powder
1 onion, chopped
Directions
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
Place the beer and ketchup in a slow cooker on high setting and allow to simmer..
Meanwhile, in a large bowl, combine the ground beef, garlic powder and onion, mixing well. Form mixture into meatballs about 3/4 inch in diameter. Place meatballs in a 9x13 inch baking dish.
Bake at 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) for 20 minutes.
Transfer meatballs to the slow cooker with the beer and ketchup and simmer for 3 hours; sauce will thicken.

How do you clean it?

Well, if you are like me, those two numbers are drastically different.  I have a few favorites and I wear them all the time.
