I love L.A.! - 04/24/14

A belated Happy Easter to everyone.  I spent the holiday in Los Angeles.  What a beautiful place!  While there I visited the FOX Studios.  You want to talk about impressive!  Check out the picture of the entrance I attached to this blog.

The second picture is of a sign on one of the buildings at FOX promoting an upcoming television show on the network.  If you've never seen "24" starring Kiefer Sutherland, you're missing out.  It's non-stop action!

Sort of like the traffic in L.A.  You better be on your toes making your way around the city.  No matter what time of day, there's a chance you'll run into heavy traffic.

That being said, as Randy Newman once sung in a song, "I love L.A."  You should check it out if you've never been there.  And one last word to the wise, you'll need way more than "24" hours to enjoy all Los Angeles has to offer.

PRESIDENT OBAMA-LETTERMAN

NEW YOKRK (AP) -- Picture two old guys telling tales and playing dominoes. Now, imagine the oldsters are President Barack Obama and David Letterman. President Obama says with his term ending and Letterman retiring, maybe they can hangout together. The president says they could play dominoes or go to Starbucks for a cup of coffee. It was President Obama's eighth time on Letterman's "Late Show." Letterman will be signing off for good on May 20.

COCAINE IN UNDERWEAR

NEW YORK (AP) -- There was a package in his underpants -- according to U.S. Customs agents. Authorities report busting a man at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, after finding a pound of cocaine in his skivvies. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers say the Jamaican citizen arrived on a flight from Kingston and looked nervous. Authorities say they found two packets of coke in his underwear. He now faces federal drug smuggling charges.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA-HIGH SURF

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Surf's up in Southern California -- way up. The National Weather service predicted wave heights of up to 12 feet yesterday along beaches in Orange and San Diego counties. The towering waves challenged body surfers and kept lifeguards busy, as they were pulling people from the water. Police in Seal Beach are warning inexperienced swimmers to stay out the water. The high tides are caused by a Southern Hemisphere storm.

TEST-TUBE BURGERS

PITTSBURGH (AP) -- What's for dinner? How about test tube meat? Bistro In Vitro is supposed to open Thursday. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports one of its staffers received an invitation to the opening. The eatery bills itself as the "world's first lab-grown meat restaurant." Some of the menu offerings include Knitted Meat, In Vitro Oysters, See-Through Sashimi and Liquid Turducken. But the restaurant doesn't list a location. The paper reports the lab-meat restaurant could be a publicity stunt by Next Nature Network, a Dutch think-tank and design group.
