AUBURN, Ala. (AP) -- An Auburn University graduate's account of serving with the Marines in the Pacific during World War II is now part of an HBO series.

Letters, documents and personal artifacts of Eugene Sledge were donated by him to Auburn's library before his death in 2001. His account of his experience as a Marine at Peleliu and Okinawa is part of the HBO series, "The Pacific."

A son, Henry Sledge, says it's electrifying to see his father's story brought to TV.

His father took notes in a pocket Bible while serving in the Pacific. He later turned them into memoirs.
