LOS ANGELES, Cali.--As American Idol goes from city to city, scouting out different contestants one thing remains constant: the judges. Fox 17's Mikayla Lewis caught up with Season 13 judges: Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick Jr. in L.A. to find out the what this year's chemistry is like versus last season's.
Many Idol fans remember the feuds between Season 12 judges, Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey. This year, the judges say fighting is a thing of the past, and the future is all about the music.
Keith Urban said, "It feels good."
The good times roll with the returning judges, and new addition Harry Connick, Jr. The judges say there is are plenty of silly antics and fun this season.
Jennifer Lopez said, "We joke around a lot. But you know, I think we all take music very seriously because we love it, and we take the show seriously too, but not so much that we can't have a laugh."
The panel says you will not find any fighting this year, like last season between Minaj and Carey. Season 13's atmosphere is much lighter.
Harry Connick, Jr. explained, "Sometimes people misinterpret easy for this is easy, like we'll just show up and phone it in. It's not that kind of easy. It's an easy feel. It's like going to hang with a group of friends that you really like. It's an easy flow to it."
Ryan Seacrest said, " I'm excited that we've got a group that just sat together had lunch and laughed out loud and talked about their lives and get along. I think that people who've watched the show for a long time will enjoy that part of the show."
As far as the one judge being tougher or more encouraging than the other, Urban says they are all about honesty.
Urban said, "More than anything, we're all honest. We all deliver our critiques in our individual ways and we deliver it differently to each artist... Because everyone handles things differently at different times."
