NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The gospel music industry is taking notice of a local choir with a big sound. That sound is coming from Tennessee State University. New Direction is made up of 35 students from Tennessee State University. Recently they were invited to compete in one of the nation's largest gospel choir competitions. Watch this and you'll understand why they were selected for this rare opportunity. The sound of TSU's New Direction choir is undeniable.

It's a diverse group, but somehow the voices blend to create a powerful harmony. That powerful sound landed New Direction an invitation to the country's largest gospel choir competition "How Sweet the Sound". New Direction was up against larger more experienced choirs, but they walked away with First Runner Up and a check for $5000.

By the sound of it, this choir hasn't hit its last high note. The choir plans to use the prize money to help a student with Sickle Cell Anemia for scholarships and possibly new choir robes.
