NASHVILLE, Tn - - Rewarding but risky is how Nashville singer songwriter Mindy Smith describes taking on a Christmas project. "It is risky putting yourself out there and being that vulnerable with something creative" say Smith, who has always recorded full length albums. She says making an EP had it's challenges and so did writing about snow in the middle of August! "I cranked up the AC and tried to think of all the things up that were different about holiday instead of being redundant" says Smith.
Smith grew up the daughter of a preacher and choir director, so she has many memories singing some of the Christmas classics on the album, like Silent Night and What Child Is This. "There is an element of the holidays that people want something familiar" she says. But throwing in a couple of originals was a given for this songwriter. Tomorrow is Christmas Day is written from a child's perspective and Snowed In takes Mindy back to her snowy Christmas' in New York. "I think snow is cleansing. There is something about realizing old things are dying and new things will come of it" she says.
Smith ends the album with the New Years classic Auld Lang Syne. She says she hopes each listener will apply the lyrics to their own lives and entering 2014 celebrating one another.
"Snowed In" is available at digital retailers like ITunes and Amazon.
