NASHVILLE, TN - Steven Curtis Chapman has released several albums over the past few years but it's been seven years since he has released a studio album of all new material. "The Glorious Unfolding" is a body of work that contains some of the most personal songs he's ever written.
Life has taken Chapman on a lot of journeys the past few years. From the birth of a grandchild, to losing his own daughter Maria, Chapman says the glorious unfolding is more than 12 songs - it's a landmark album. "It is me coming to a deeper understanding and belief that this life we are living is really a story God has already written is telling and we are invited in." says Chapman.
The songs on the album are very personal. His 29 year relationship with his wife inspired the song "Together". "Only One Only You" is to his 14 year old daughter and he also wrote a song about an his last moments with his 99 year old grandmother. "I got to tell her some things I wanted her to tell Maria for me. Its crazy the things you now see as a gift during those dark places." says Chapman.
Chapman says recording the album gave a voice to both his joys and his challenges but this biggest hope is that people can relate on a more personal level. "So many of these songs, much more than any I recall writing, have this message of me addressing the listener."
After being in the business for so long, we had to ask if this his last?
"Ahh, that dreaded r word - retirement. We will see. It is a glorious unfolding. Someone should write a song" he laughs.
