NASHVILLE, Tenn.--The Women's Final Four basketball teams (UConn, Notre Dame, Stanford and Maryland) started arriving to Music City Friday afternoon to settle into their hotels for the weekend. Downtown will be full of activities for the tournament, and thousands of people are expected to be in Nashville for the different events.
Some road closures will be taking place but the Nashville Local Committee says it will be minimal.
The NCAA awarded Nashville as the host city of the 2014 Women's Final Four in 2008. For the last five years, a committee has worked on all aspects of the tournament at Bridgestone Arena, including traffic issues.
Road closures will begin on Saturday starting at 8 A.M. for a 4K run. The closures are expected to be short and rolling with the race according to Gary Alexander with the Nashville Sports Council and local committee.
Saturday around 1:00 P.M. Super Saturday will be taking and will have some roads blocked off for a few hours.
Alexander said, " We're closing the roads from a very short time, around 1:00 on Saturday we will come up Demonbreun, up 5th, up Broadway and down 7th to the Music City Center."
Alexander advises residents to use caution when driving downtown this weekend, with all of the visitors. There will also be other activities celebrating the Women's Final Four throughout the city over the weekend.
The Adventure Center will host a legacy program, and there also family events at the Belcourt Theatre and library.
The city put in a bid for the next Final Four cycle, and is a finalist and hope this year will prove Music City is worthy of another round.
Alexander explained,"We think we are going to show them that Nashville is the perfect place to host a Women's Final Four because of the rich tradition of women's basketball, the downtown complex.and the organizations that we got together to put on this event."
