Sparking debate this morning, a Florida senator says bullies should be treated like criminals. He wants to set up new penalties for bullying.
Right now, bullying and cyber-bullying are against the law in Florida. But enforcement is up to schools. Punishments range from writing letters of apology to school suspensions.
But a new bill would make repeated bullying a felony, which could carry a charge of a first-degree misdemeanor.
Kaden Prevatt has never been cyberbullied, but says he's been tormented his whole life. He thinks the new bill with the threat of harsher penalties could prevent harassment in classrooms.
Supporters of the bill say it doesn't just protect kids, but sends a broader message to anyone who may think of harassing someone online.
