A new report from Simon Fraser University in British Columbia says we're over the hill at the age of 24.
The study shows cognitive motor skill peak at 24 and then starts to decline. Researchers analyzed the performance of over 3,000 video game players between the ages of 16 and 44 because of the need to use "cognitive-based moves" while playing. Even those who were found to play at a high skill level showed decline despite their performance. They just compensated better than the younger players.
Psychology doctoral student Joe Thompson told Science Daily "our cognitive-motor capacities are not stable across our adulthood, but are constantly in flux, and that our day-to-day performance is a result of the constant interplay between change and adaptation."
