NASHVILLE, Tn.--Congressman Jim Cooper (D, 5th District) says a compromise on raising the debt ceiling would pass both houses of Congress if brought up for a vote.
Appearing on Fox 17 This Morning, the Democratic representative from Tennessee's 5th District said he supports a compromise that would raise the governments debt ceiling if President Obama would agree to consider changes in the Affordable Care Act. Its not clear whether such a compromise bill will be introduced, nor whether President Obama would sign it if it were to pass.
One proposed change would eliminate the medical device tax and replace it with other revenue. Cooper said he believes that Congress needs to fulfill its financial obligations by raising the debt ceiling and not put the economy's health in danger as a budget compromise is sought.
