Dad Drives Teens Over For Fight Uses Crowbar

A Long Island man drove his teen daughter and her friends to the park last Wednesday, but police say he’s no soccer dad.
When Richard Ortiz, 45, pulled up at Abe Levitt Park on Stewart Avenue just after 1 a.m., his 17-year-old daughter hopped out of the car to confront a girl hanging out with another group.
The teen tried to fight the girl one-on-one, police say, and when a 17-year-old boy stepped in to separate the brawlers Ortiz allegedly cracked him in the head with a crowbar.
The blow opened up a large gash, and the boy was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Ortiz, who fled the scene with the four girls, turned himself in early Tuesday, police said.
He is facing an assault charge and will be arraigned on Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
