FRANKLIN, Tenn. -- A Franklin couple escaped their burning home Wednesday morning, as firefighters fought the fire in temperatures that felt like zero degrees.
The Williamson County fire department responded to the 2100 block of Old Natchez Trace at 12:30 a.m. after the couple woke to smoke, got out and called 911. Two dozen firefighters battled flames that flared up in the 5,000-plus square foot home, built in the 1800s, until 2 a.m.
Crews were then pulled out as the fire grew out of control. They are now monitoring the fire as it burns.
There are no injuries. The Red Cross is assisting the couple.
No word yet on what may have caused the fire.
