NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Here locally, the Greyhound bus line is monitoring the weather south of us. They tell us 3 of their buses got stuck in the Atlanta gridlock overnight, so they aren't taking any chances. That means many passengers are stuck in Music City tonight. The Red Cross opened an emergency shelter. 31 people are inside the church. Many of them are trying to get to Atlanta. They'll be sleeping on cots tonight. It will be uncomfortable. It sure beats what many went through last night, including our very own Tennessee Titans Linebacker Zaviar Gooden. A nightmare in Atlanta and stuck in the middle of it was Gooden. He was on his way to off-season training, but didn't get there. He spent 12 hours in his car. Gooden says he got frostbite on his foot from the whole ordeal, and he wasn't alone in his discomfort.
3 Greyhound buses were also at a standstill on the Atlanta interstate, and back in Nashville people trying to catch a bus south were also stuck. At least here they were a little more comfortable. The Red Cross opened an emergency shelter at a nearby church while these passengers wait it out. Sandra Garrett's been trying to get home to Atlanta. It was a trip that started Monday in Milwaukee. By Wednesday night, she's made it no further than Nashville. She will be sleeping on a cot, along with several other strangers stuck right along with her.
The people there all have similar stories. Tired of waiting around, some even chose to stay back at the bus station. IF you ask Elizabeth Ewing, being stuck here sure beats being up against the Atlanta gridlock. It's all about keeping it in perspective tonight. We checked in with Greyhound tonight. They tell us they're hoping to get these folks on the road.
