29.7 million drivers are expected to hit the roads this Labor Day weekend and some good news...you'll see the cheapest gas prices since 2010. AAA says record-high oil production is keeping prices low despite increased demand. Tennesseans will see prices 18 cents on average cheaper than last year at this time.
But along with cheaper gas prices also come ramped-up patrols from the Tennessee Highway Patrol. Troopers will be setting up their "No Refusal" checkpoints once again this holiday. The checkpoints will start at midnight on Friday and run through Monday morning. Drivers pulled over will not be allowed to refuse a blood test because the law allows for search warrants to obtain the blood samples.
Locations in Nashville include HWY 70 in Dickson, HWY 41 in Rutherford and S. Rutherford Blvd.
There were 15 fatal crashes last year during Labor Day weekend which left 16 dead. Six of the fatalities were due to alcohol-related crashes, ten people were passengers and six of those ten were NOT wearing their safety belts.
