MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- An alarming number of veterans are losing their lives not in combat, but by committing suicide.
A Murfreesboro veteran is working to raise awareness about PTS and other mental health issues facing service men and women.
A handful of residents joined Matthew O'Dell for a lunchtime demonstration on the square. Residents held signs with the number 22, which represents the average number of veterans committing suicide each day, according to the Department of Veterans Affairs.
O'Dell owns a coffee shop on the square and uses the business to reach other veterans. He's hoping more people will join the silent demonstration on the 22nd of each month from noon to 1 p.m.
