WASHINGTON, D.C. - Senator John McCain (R-AZ) hits the Obama Administration with a blow Sunday, saying its policy in Syria is a failure. Reporter Scott Thomson has the latest on McCain's thoughts toward the way the Administration is handling the Syria situation. Secretary of State John Kerry condemned the Syrian government Sunday after peace talks in Geneva failed. Talks between the regime and the opposition broke down Saturday after hours of negotiations and so far no date has been set to restart those talks. Traveling in Jakarta, Kerry says the White House is now looking at other options to respond to the civil war and the ongoing humanitarian crisis. That prompted Republican Senator John McCain to lash out at the Obama Administration's handling of the situation. McCain made the comments on CNN's State of the Union. He says he wants the President to own what he calls a failure and to change course.
Some who oppose McCain's idea say the arming of the free Syrian Army could be a bad idea because it increases the chance of weaponry getting into the wrong hands, but McCain rejected that notion. The President says he is working to help Syria. On Friday he spoke with Jordan's King Adbullah to find ways to bring peace to the country. Syria has been in the midst of civil war for nearly 3 years and some human rights groups have estimated the conflict has claimed nearly 130,000 lives.
