NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Tax hikes would increase sales tax and vehicle license fees to provide dedicated money for mass transit. Council Member Charlie Tygard (at large) says he's proposing the hikes to start a dialogue on mass transit costs. At Tygard's request, the Council deferred the ordinances until May, but not before Councilman Ronnie Steine (at large) attempted to kill the hikes outright. Tygard says many cities like Baltimore have a dedicated funding source for mass transit.
