A crowd chanted, "We are Mike Brown, " all the way to Metro Police Department's doorsteps. The We Will Not Go Back march was organized locally by the Brown Justice Chasers.
Marches took place in cities like Staten Island and St. Louis on Saturday.
The Brown Justice Chasers and supporters say they rallying for justice against police brutality. The non-profit is using the case of Michael Brown as their main platform. The African-American teen from Ferguson, MO was shot and killed by a police officer earlier this month. Many felt his lifeless body stayed in the street for too long, sparking controversy, riots and protests.
The nonprofits member, Brittany Watson says, "They're not saying that the black man's death is the same as a white man's death. So how do we change that? It's through our voice."
Resident, Darrell Bouldin says, " I've witnessed first hand my friends that are black being harassed by police, getting pulled over for no reason."
Watson says, " It's time that we stand in solidarity. It's not just minorities. We have white people out here we have all people and we have to stand together."
Watson says she was in Ferguson peacefully protesting during the violent period. She says the rioters:
"They have all this misplaced anger. They don't know which way to go. So since they can't have their voice heard, they throw things . They depict a negative image, but they aren't getting that."
Isus Swink says, "If we can get our message across peacefully, then I think that is the way to go. Violence should never be the first answer."
In the scorching summer heat, marchers were greeted by Metro police with cold bottles of water in their normal uniform.
