Tenn. -- Your mom may have told you to text her when you get home safely, but a new technology will let her know if you don't get home safely.
Kitestring is a free service where you enter your phone number and the number of an emergency contact.
Kitestring then checks in with you via text message at a time you set in advance.
If you answer it, nothing changes, but if you don't answer it, Kitestring automatically sends an alert to the emergency contact.
Laura Dahl is a bartender at the Pub Nashville, who sometimes doesn't leave work until 4:00 a.m.
"I think it's a great idea," Dahl said. "I think people should definitely use it."
