WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama is looking for allies among America's governors.
The president meets Monday with governors of both parties at the White House. He told state leaders during a Sunday White House dinner that their cooperation "is vital," especially when dealing with a Congress that's having a "difficult time acting."
Republicans plan to share their ideas for improving the nation's economy at the meeting. They want fewer federal regulations and freedom from key provisions of Obama's health care overhaul.
Not every governor will meet with the president. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's office says he left the meeting of the National Governors Association a day early to attend his daughter's birthday.
FOX 17 Note: Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam's is expected to participate in the Republican Governors Association press briefing, according to his schedule agenda
