Wife of Sandy Calvert Says She Worried About Husband's Mental State -- Sky Arnold

Gallatin, Tenn --- Sandy Calvert walked into court Thursday the only suspect in a horrifying crime.
Calvert is facing a first degree murder charge in the beheading of his father in law Jim Hudgins.
Sumner County Deputy Thomas Briggs was among those who saw Hudgins' body.
"The head had been completely taken off the shoulder blade and sitting in the lap of the victim's body," said Briggs.
Deputy Briggs testified that he talked to Calvert at the scene in February shortly after the body was discovered.
Lt. Chris tarlacky testified that Calvert confessed to shooting his father in law.
Tarlacky says Calvert told him he killed Hudgins after discovering what he thought was evidence his father in law molested his wife and daughter.
Tarlacky says Calvert claimed he cut off the head because he hates snakes and that's the only way to kill a snake.
Calvert's wife Katherine disputes the molestation story.
She says her husband was facing a relapse into a mental illness that forced him to be hospitalized in 2011.
She says the relapse was so bad the night before she tried unsuccessfully to talk her husband into going to the hospital for mental help.
" He was reading things upside down. He was not processing he was very paranoid," said Calvert.
Katherine Calvert says she's convinced her husband can be safely let out on bond now that he's on medication.
Sumner County Judge James Hunter disagreed.
Judge Hunter denied bond and sent Calvert's case to a grand Jury.
