A Wilson County man has been indicted for allegedly possessing thousands of images of child pornography, according to a Tuesday press release from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
The investigation of John Watkins, 30, of Lebanon, began on March 14, 2013. During the course of the investigation, TBI agents developed information that Watkins was in possession of more than 7,500 digital images and six videos that depicted minor children engaged in sexual activity, the release said.
Investigators retrieved the images from a storage unit and computer equipment belonging to Watkins. Watkins gave a statement to TBI agents and admitted to collecting and distributing the images and videos beginning in the year 2000 and continuing through 2013.
A Wilson County Grand Jury returned an indictment for Watkins, charging him with one count of sexual exploitation of a minor. Watkins turned himself into the Maury County Jail on Tuesday. His bond was set at $550,000. The investigation into Watkins continues, with the possibility of additional charges in the future, the release said.
