An Australian woman is accused of poisoning her 4-year-old daughter to get attention on Facebook, Time is reporting.
The woman is not being named to protect the identity of the child.
The 23-year-old woman is accused giving her healthy daughter chemotherapy drugs to get attention on Facebook by chronicling her “fight for life” as she recovered.
Officials say that the girl was, at one point, close to death.
Time is reporting that the woman has been sentenced to six years of prison after pleading guilty to grievous bodily harm. The maximum sentence would have been 25 years.
Her defense team argued that the woman suffers from facetious disorder proxy, which is defined as the “the deliberate production or feigning or physical or psychological signs or symptoms in another person who is under the individuals’ care.”
