WZTV Fox 17 :: Tennessee Now a Hotbed for the Flu
Flu season is starting early in the Southeast. Tennessee is one of 5 states the CDC says are reporting high flu activity ahead of schedule.

"We're seeing flu activity across the state and we're seeing widespread activity, that's how we're classified by CDC," says Deputy State Epidemiologist John Dunn.

Flu Signs and Symptoms

According to the Centers for Disease Control, the flu usually comes on suddenly. People who have the flu often feel some or all of these symptoms:

FLU VS. COMMON COLD

Flu Symptoms (more intense than common cold):
- Fever
- Body aches
- Extreme tiredness
- Dry cough are more common and intense
- Chills
- HeadachesCommon

Cold Symptoms: 
- Stuffy/runny nose
- Cough
- Sore throat
- Fever is rare
- Slight body aches
- Mild fatigue
