EAST HAMPTON, N.Y. (AP) -- Dr. Beach likes the island. A beach on New York's Long Island is the best in the country. That's the word from Stephen P. Leatherman -- A-K-A Dr. Beach -- a coastal expert at Florida International University. Main Beach in East Hampton is number-one in the 23rd edition of the country's Top 10 best beaches. Dr. Beach says Main Beach doesn't look like it suffered much damage from Superstorm Sandy. He adds it's one of the cleanest beaches he's ever seen.
PSYCHICS ARRESTED
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) -- They should have seen it coming. Authorities in Southern California have busted a couple who claimed to be psychics. Officials say they told a woman they could clear negative energy if she paid nine pennies, nine nickels, nine quarters and $9,000 over nine days. According to authorities, the couple promised to return the money after nine days, but never did. The Riverside Press-Enterprise reports investigators say the couple (Cindy and Nick Uwanawich) fleeced up to eight customers out of a total of $238,000.
POP TARTS-ARREST
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Mom flipped over her Pop Tarts. Authorities in Charlotte, North Carolina, say a woman called police to report her son had stolen her Pop Tarts in their home. The police report says the woman has been having discipline issues with her son. So, she wanted to teach him a lesson. Officers say the boy will be charged in juvenile court with misdemeanor larceny.
NASA HARDWARE-HIGH SCHOOLS
HAMPTON, Va. (AP) -- It's enough make you dizzy -- and that's the idea. High school students in Virginia have finished building a spinning chair for NASA. Astronauts in Texas will use the device to train on coping with being disoriented. The chair was made by 16 students under a NASA program for high school students to build real-world products. It underwent its first test spins at a NASA research center yesterday.
