Saving You Money
Americans spend roughly $200 billion a year on prescriptions, and a recent study shows 61% have problems paying their medical bills. FOX17's Stacy Case is saving you money with ways to cut costs at the pharmacy. Employees at a Nashville mail order pharmacy never miss a pick up. You won't see a DCA Mail Order Pharmacy on every corner, and you certainly won't see any advertisements for it, but these mail order pharmacies are big business and they can save you big bucks. With mail order pharmacies, they're usually in a warehouse district, so the rent is going to be less, and you don't have the facade in front of the store to keep up, so generally the cost of doing business is lower. They can charge less for your medication prices. Over the course of a year, you'll typically save 20-30% using a mail order pharmacy because you'll get a 3-month supply all at one time. Generally, they'll charge you 2 months copay for a 3 month supply. That depends on your plan. Ask your prescription drug coverage provider if they have a mail order plan. If so, sign up to have your maintenance drugs delivered for less. The other popular option is internet pharmacies. They can be a good option and yes, they can save you money, but not all internet pharmacies are created equal. You'll want to make sure yours has the VIPPS seal of approval. It stands for Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Sites. It generally shows the pharmacy complies with state and federal laws. The pharmacist we featured in this report is known as the medicine coach, and he's written a book on ways to save money at the pharmacy. You can find a free electronic link to the book on Fox Links.Pharmacies
