Tonight I'm Saving You Money on gas. You know the basics... drive slower, consolidate your trips and check your tire pressure.
   But there's a money saving connection between gift cards and gasoline.
   One helps save on the other, and if you REALLY work it....
   You can REALLY save.
   We all know scanning your Kroger Plus card at check out can rack up the fuel points....
Man pumping gas  says: Oh I saved 10 cents a gallon..
But the saving strategy shouldn't stop there  With gas averaging $3.58 in Tennessee and $3.63 in Kentucky, It's time to turn to the gift card kiosk.  But only for necessities and places you'd be patronizing anyway.
Melissa Eads/ Kroger Spokesperson says:   
So if  you say pick up this $25 O'Charleys gift card you're going to get 50 points for that... it's double the amount of points. So, if you buy a $50 dollar gift card,  you get 100 points. So right there,  you get 10 cents off per gallon.
    100 fuel points equals 10 cents off.  200 fuel points equals 20 cents off and so on.
   Amy Harvey who has two children learned to read between the lines with this savings strategy recently and she's been blogging about it on her website, My Music City Mommy dot com.
   Amy Harvey says:  I figured I'm going to be shopping at Target and I'm going to be eating at Subway,  so there's no reason I should not do that.  I made 100 points right here .. that's 10 cents instant off a gallon.

Stacy Case says:  It's important to know which gift cards apply... stores like Lowes, and restaurants  like Applebees will get you double  fuel points, but cards like these here .. these pre paid Visa and MasterCards and the Kroger gift card.. won't.
   So the next time you're buying groceries, see if there's a store you know you'll be visiting and let that card work for you on the backside at the pump.
