Tonight's Saving You Money focuses on price matching. Some stores may
refer to it as ad matching. It's when one retailer honors a
competitor's lower price, but you have to do your homework and remember
to ask.
With three kids, Holly Kunkel, has her antenna up
for the lowest price. She says, "I have been known to pull up my phone
and check out other prices at another store and go to another store if
it's not the price I'm looking for."
Instead of doing all that
extra driving, battling more crowds and waiting in another line --- many
stores are matching competitors' lower prices.
Target broke the shopping mold this Christmas season by matching online competitor's ads too. A retail first.
Joy
Yancey with Target in South Nashville on Old Hickory Boulevard says,
"Up until the 16th we will match our online competitors as well as the
regular ad in the store. So we will match Amazon.com, Walmart.com,
Bestbuy.com."
In addition to Target, Wal Mart, ToysRUs, Sears,
Home Depot and Lowes price match brick and mortar ads too, but not
online prices. Yancey with Target says, "Many guests are actually on
their phone and shopping and price matching while they shop."
Stacy
Case reporting from inside the store says, "Even though you may have
discovered the better price on your smartphone, most stores that price
match still require you to bring in the paper ad."
Wal Mart
is one that doesn't require the ad in hand, but ALL stores put the
responsibility on you. If you don't ask, you don't save. By some
retail estimates only 5 to 10 percent of shoppers request a 'price or ad
match.'
Shopper Holly Kunkel says, "I think it's important for stores to stay competitive."
Target's Yancey comments, "It's all about expect more pay less so being able to live that out is great for us and our guests."
During the shopping season, stores revise their price matching
policies. So, double check with the store manager if you aren't sure.
