One of the most successful pop sensations of the 1950's has died.
Patti Page, famed for hits like "Tennessee Waltz" passed away on New Years Day.

Fox 17 Entertainment Reporter Stacy McCloud explains her many Nashville connections.

It's
unforgettable tunes like "Tennessee Waltz" that made Patti Page the
best selling female singer of the 1950's. "How Much Is That Doggie In
The Window" and "Old Cape Cod" are other songs fans and friends, like
Nashville broadcaster Keith Bilbrey will never forget, "There are
singers that sing the words and carry the tune and then there are those
that interpret it. I've never been to cape cod but I know about it from
Patti Page" says Bilbrey.

During her seven generation career,
Page had one 111 chart hits and 50 albums,19 of them gold. She had her
own TV series on all three major networks, earned a Grammy, has stars on
both the hollywood walk of fame and country music walk of fame and most
recently was scheduled to receive the recording academy's lifetime
achievement award this coming February.

"She was an honest
singer. No bells and whistles, no vocal gymnastics, she sang words not
notes and there is a big difference" says Nashville Producer Jon Vezner.


Page didn't live in Nashville, but did spend a lot of time here.

"I
remember the first track we cut" laughs Vezner, who worked with her on
three of her final albums, "She was a true artist, wasn't manufactured,
no tuning, unbelievable" he says.

Talent aside, those that knew
Page best say that Clara Ann Fowler, as she was named at birth, was a
humble and very kind human being. An interpreter of music that will be
greatly missed.
