WZTV FOX17 :: Local Rock Band
A local rock band is battling to be named the best in the 16th annual Bernie Ball Battle Of The Bands.

"The
Hollywood Kills" will be one of four bands that will rock out in LA
tomorrow night for a once in a lifetime opportunity, that as Fox 17
Entertainment Reporter Stacy McCloud found out - almost didn't happen
because of an unknown medical condition that suddenly hospitalized one
of their members.

The Hollywood Kills, made up of four guys born
and raised in Nashville, came together after each experienced a bit of
disappointment in the music business.

"We formed as bands of
misfits, all these bands broke up and took members from each and formed
The Hollywood Kills" says lead singer Jonathon Jircitano.

Their
dark pop rock sound quickly garnered a lot of attention,  developing a
large fan base and now the praise of some high profile industry
professionals.

"We put in a lot of hard work, sweat, blood in
this band. Neat to see things finally happening for us" says band member
Brent Powelson.

Back this summer they were one of over
30-thousand. Now they're one of four that have a chance to win the Ernie
Ball Battle Of The Bands. It's a competition that would allow them to
record with a multi platinum producer and spend two weeks on the warped
tour!

"We are just trying to look at it as another show that could lead to something more" says Jonathon

The
guys have been hoping for this kind of opportunity since the band
formed in 2006. But just days before Christmas, the unthinkable
happened.

"December 22nd I was diagnosed with Gillium B
Syndrome, which is an auto immune disorder that sends paralysis starting
from feet up" says Brent.

Brent was hospitalized and told there is no way he would be able to compete.

"It
was heartbreaking. The band was visiting when the doctor gave that
news. They told me I could be paralyzed" remembers Brent.

The
band started practicing as a 3-piece when miraculously Brent started to
improve and was released much sooner than doctors expected.

"It's fate, it really is. Destiny" says Brent.

Still
a bit weak, Brent says The Hollywood Kills now know there  are bigger
reasons they've been given this opportunity  and are more than ready to
rock!

"It gives you a new perspective. I was so concerned about winning and now I'm so excited about just going" says Brent.
