NASHVILLE, Tenn -- Ashley Monroe moved to Nashville at only 15 to try and make it as a musician. Now 26, she has had tons of success as a songwriter and as part of the country trio The Pistol Annies. But she still couldn't shake her desire for a solo career. "I can't just do those two there was still that aching in my heart to do that solo stuff too," says Ashley.
Long overdue, her debut album "Like A Rose", which is also the name of her first single, is finally out. "It is the first song I wrote with Guy Clark. He said tell me about yourself. I told about my life and I ended the story saying, but I ame out like a rose and he said, well why don't we just write that" says Ashley.
Monroe has had the support of many big names. One being the producer of the album, country legend Vince Gill. "I moved here when I was 15 and met him after. He always stood back and silently watched me" says Ashley.
Gill wanted to make sure Ashley showed all sides of her personality and even co-wrote one of the more humorous tracks, "You Ain't Dolly (You Ain't Porter", featuring Blake Shelton. Each song on the album is special to her, but her favorite is a song called "The Morning After". "Every time I sing to that it gets to me. Not only drinking but being heartbroken the morning after and still feeling it," she says.
Nine tracks, that more than anything, Ashley hopes fans will relate to.
