A follow up to a FOX17 SPECIAL REPORT about cougars, which are also known as mountain lions. Tonight, a Texas boy is recovering after being attacked by one. This comes just as a world renowned cougar expert analyzes evidence of the big cat here. A mountain lion, or cougar, attacked the 6 year old boy while his parents were hiking in Big Bend National Park in Texas.
"The cat was clamped onto his face, I reached down and got my picket knife out and stabbed teh cat in the chest and it let go at that point," says Jason Hobbs.
The boy is expected to be okay. In a FOX17 SPECIAL REPORT last week, we showed how the animal is moving eastward, and pointed out the closest proven cougar to Tennessee was killed in Georgia. Wildlife officials say we don't have any here, but some Midstaters have tracks and video they say proves otherwise. We had 2 of those pictures taken in Brentwood analyzed by world renowned cougar scientist Dr. Howard Quigley. The woman who took the picture reported seeing a long tail. As far as the paw print, Dr. Quigley says there's no way to say definitely, but it could be. We've heard form a lot of you since our report aired last week.
