WBFF Fox 45 :: BEHIND THE SONG:
"It's crazy to think that just an ole Georgia boy who dabbled in the
farms can come up and write music and people record them and radio play
them" says Dallas Davidson.

By his long list of accomplishments,
which include over 100 recorded songs, thirteen of them #1 hits,  BMI
Country Songwriter of the Year, ACM Nominations and much more, it's hard
to believe that songwriting wasn't always a dream for Dallas Davidson.

"I bought a guitar and started learning to play, songs started flying out, and here we are talking about it now" says Davidson.

Ironically
it was his longtime friend, with a pretty well known name, that
encouraged him to move to Nashville only 8 years ago.

"Luke Bryan  is the main reason I am here. I wasn't  in a band and wasn't suppose to be a songwriter" says Davidson.

Davidson
has hits with numerous Nashville artists, including Luke Bryan, but his
most recent number ones are with the the Grammy award winning group
Lady Antebellum. After successfully co-writing "Own The Night" and
recording it for their album, the trio wanted to sit down with Dallas
again. Eventually "Just A Kiss" was the result of that writing session,
but the day didn't start out in that direction.

"Dave Haywood
kept playing this little riff on my keyboard all day. We were writing
another song, but he kept playing it. At the end of the writing
appointment I said, there is something to that riff you are playing. We
locked in on that and Charles started singing the melody and these words
fly out and we were off to the races" says Davidson

Next, it was time to come up with what is normally the hardest part, a title, but that came pretty quickly too!

I
get my phone out, flipping through it and there it is, Just A Kiss. Who
knows where it came from.Usually we throw out 3, 4, 5 titles for
something but that one stuck immediately" says Davidson.

The four called it a day and picked back up the next morning.

"They
mean business. Dave has this big imac he's toting up the steps, drum
loop going and I was like alright let's go" says Davidson.

Ideas were coming from everywhere, but Davison says they relied heavily on Hillary!

"She
was falling in love at the time so we tapped into her.We had to borrow
her brain, she is the girl in love and falling in love. Guys like
Charles, me and Dave,  we are guys-guys and so to write a song with
tenderness we relied heavily on her" says Davidson.

A short time later they were finished. Dallas remembers the group gushing about what they had written.

"They
start talking that this could be a song on the album, that it could be a
big hit and I'm sitting there thinking, hell yea it's a big hit" laughs
Davidson.

It was the last song Lady A recorded for the album, but was released as the first single.

"That
is about as fast as I've ever had it happen. From writing day, to
getting recorded, to radio, that is as fast as you can do it" says
Davidson.

Dallas, who has penned songs like "Honkytonk
Bedonkadonk" and "Country Girl Shake It For Me", sometimes gets thrown
into one category.

"People are like you write about trucks and dirt roads", laughs Davidson.

But this song proves that theory is far from the truth, making this cut one of the most important in his songwriting career!

It lets ppl know I'm not just an ole country boy, but I'm a country boy with soul that can do pop too" says Davidson. BEHIND THE SONG: "Just a Kiss"
