Students Perform at Tree Lighting Ceremony-Stacy McCloud
Some very talented Nashville students help ring in the holiday season at the State Capitol. 16 students in grades 5-7 performed during the ceremony using instruments that were donated to their school.
These and 85,000 other students across the country are able to play rock instruments like a guitar, piano, drums or bass thanks to Little Kids Rock- a non-profit music education program that transforms childrens lives by restoring and revitalizing music education in underfunded public schools.
Providing teachers like Mark Hale the tools he needs to make sure music isn't left out of the curriculum.
Hale says, "It touches my heart cause I see kids that normally wouldn't be able to play an instrument and they have an opportunity."
In all, Hale has about 60 donated guitars he uses in class and checks out to students who don't have a guitar at home.
Little Kids Rock also allows students to purchase a guitar for really cheap.
Support made possible thanks to some big name artists like BB King, Ziggy Marley, Slash and here in Nashville, Big Kenny. Musical moments that allow these talented kids to shine.
Nashville, is one of only 21 cities nationwide served by the Little Kids Rock program.
