Couple Featured in Essence Magazine-Stacy McCloud
A Clarksville man and his fiance are making headlines in a national magazine.
The couple is one of four featured in Essence Magazine's annual "Will you Marry Me?" contest. Essence Magazine gives guys the chance of a lifetime- to surprise their girlfriends with a proposal that will be featured in the pages of the magazine.
A Middle Tennessee man beat out hundreds and now he and his fiance are waiting on readers to cast their vote.
Clarksville's own Cleveland Carr met his now fiance Maya in grade school. "Met first in 8th grade .. split .. she went her way I went my way .. was doing some training in West Point, NY. I am a solider now."
After years apart, it was the nations number one social network that brought them back together. "After 10 years of no contact I met back up with her on all places but Facebook. It was love at first sight."
The rest is history.
Cleveland and Maya fell madly in love.
After making up for lost time, Cleveland was ready to pop the question- so he submitted their love story to Essence.
Apparently editors can see the magic- because they selected the couple as one of the only four to be a finalist in their annual "Will You Marry Me?" contest.
"I've seen it in magazines past couple years, my girlfriends and I have talked about it and dreamed about what if one of our men did this and I am shocked that my man took the time to enter the contest."
As part of the competition, the proposal itself was caught on tape via hidden Essence cameras. If America chooses their love story to be the best, the happy ending will be a free dream wedding, complete with a dress, cake, and $10,000. Voting ends February 11.
