38 Special-Stacy McCloud
It seems 80's American Rock bands just never slow down. Every couple of weeks a big name from the 80's is performing in Nashville.
38 Special performed at the Wildhorse Saloon Friday night. Don Barnes and Donnie Van Zant from the hit 80's rock band 38 Special say there's nothing like rockin' Music City.
Donnie Van Zant says, "It's like a second home for me, I live in Florida but I spend a lot of time in Nashville so it's unbelievable to be back here again."
Nashville has been a stop on the bands tour since they formed back in the 70's.
But technically, Don and Donnie have been together much longer.
"We've been playing together since about 14 .. we are 30 now .. haha .. that is our story and we are sticking with it." "We found tolerance, it's like a marriage, been married to 6 guys after all these years, ya know, kinda outlasted some of our own marriages ya know." Don Barnes says, "I told him if I would have shot him back when I wanted to I would have been out of jail by now haha."
That genuine banter is one reason why they are still able to hit the road together after so many successful years. "We are all part of one big family and I think it reflects and shows , it's one big party ya know. Try to make it a memorable night and be explosive. Just a celebration of brotherhood and everything we've had over the years."
Another reason for the band's longevity is the type of music they play. "It's well crafted songs, but the top down and sing along in the car ya know."
As for slowing down anytime soon- the guys have a theory. "We'll do it as long as it's fun, we do 100 cities a year. It's the greatest job in the world to lift people up and make em happy." Donnie says, "That is our philosophy .. when we quit having fun we will retire and we are having fun."
