Shinedown Video-Stacy McCloud
You often hear about high profile music video's being shot in Nashville.
But it's not everyday that you hear about production of a high profile rock video. But it's the goal of a Nashville photographer and director to change that. We were on set Tuesday for the huge production of the latest video for the rock group Shinedown.
It looks like this will be the biggest rock video ever to be filmed in Nashville. Established director and photographer Ryan Smith may have 14 years experience in Los Angeles, but he certainly has his work cut out for him in Nashville, turning a small studio in Music City into the Big Apple. "We are bringing New York to Nashville via translight from LA .. mixing 3 cities in one."
The concept behind the video for Shinedown's latest single, "If You Only Knew," may look familiar.
It comes from the famous 1930's picture, "Lunch Break." Smith recreated the steel girder look with a 22 by 15 foot stage, a 25 by 90 foot translight background of New York, and even few real pigeons, to capture a living life, and love, on the edge feeling. "That was the idea the for the video. Danger. We wanted to do something dangerous and do something that would stimulate the psyche and idea of these different emotions, band playing above city on beams."
A major production, for a pretty major band.
Shinedown, who's lead singer is from Knoxville, is signed to Atlantic Records.
They've sold more than 6 million records, and with the help of Smith, their last music video made it to Number 1 on VH1's Top 20 Video Countdown. With so much accessibility in other cities, why bring the production to Nashville?
Smith says it's simple.
He moved here and fell in love with the city, so he's made it his goal to bring more action of all different genres, with him.
"I think it's an amazing crew, amazing town. Rock bands come through here all the time. it's not just country. It's a music city so lets bring rock, metal, everything."Shinedown Video-Stacy McCloud
