Cash Cabin For Sale-Stacy McCloud
A private tour of Johnny and June Carter Cash's secret cabin in Hendersonville. Everyone knew about their house on the lake which burned a few years ago.
But few knew about their secluded log cabin hide-a-way. One of the agents can certainly bring the home to life- because he's Johnny's younger brother Tommy. Tommy gave us a tour of the secret Cash cabin and all the memories it holds.
Nestled on a hillside, off a fairly busy road in Hendersonville, is a small serene community.
Each home is unique.
They were built before the Civil War, but this cabin has an even richer history.
It was once a secret place of rest for Johnny and June Cash. "They called it their mountain house, 'let's go to the mountain.' Nobody bothered them up here they could stay up here weeks at a time."
The 1800's home originally stood near Clarksville.
But a local builder bought it and moved it here piece by piece in the late 1970's.
"He numbered all the logs, all the doors and windows and everything and put it back in it's original condition. "
Johnny and June bought it around 1980, and at times, never wanted to leave. "I think the average person might get bored but John being so popular for him to get away for a few days at a time it was a place he needed."
Three bedrooms, one bath, a modern kitchen, two foyers and a huge third floor. "June had a lot of her stage clothes up here, Mother Mabelle clothes, Carter Girls clothes."
2,400 square feet of historic space. "The uniqueness is wood burning fire places and there are 4 in the house."
That for years was never talked about. "John and June had a dining table here and John would send someone to get his morning newspaper and he would write in this room here."
Wooden walls that housed a lot of creativity.
"My brother wrote several songs in this house and wrote the book, 'Man in White" in this house."
And many priceless memories. "He would always call me and say bring me some Bryers ice cream and some peanuts to parch. Oh I can still feel them in this house, I can. Every time I walk in here I think of different things that went on. This is where he found the most peace, right here in this house."
The home sits on 5 acres of land.
It's on the market for $389,000 but is now under contract.
The sale could be finalized in the next couple weeks. Cash Cabin For Sale-Stacy McCloud
