Day in the Life, Ice Cream Truck-John Dunn
FOX 17 News By: John Dunn
It is the sound that sends kids into a frenzy.
It is summer time, and that means plenty of ice cream trucks with their mesmerizing music are rolling down the streets of Middle Tennessee.
On a hot summer day, there is nothing cooler than an ice cream truck.
"9:42 we're off to a good start," says driver Cathy Brown.
Cathy Brown is an elementary school secretary, but during the summer she pushes popsicles.
"Alright, Hi sweetie," says Brown.
At St. Edwards school kids line up to cool down.
Every child here has their own request.
"Nobody leaves this truck without a popsicle. I mean everybody gets a popsicle regardless of whether you've got the money or not," says Brown.
These are the moments that make the job so much fun.
"Hello young man," says Brown.
Cathy Browns smile proves it.
Cathy and her nephew Chad drive all across town.
"It just makes me happy to see the kids happy, and it's cute, and it's fun, and it's just sweet," says Brown.
Daycares and preschools are a popular stop.
Cathy caters to her kid customers.
The hardest part is deciding what you want. The menu is mouth watering.
Ice cream is a childhood delight, but it is not just kids who love it.
The sound of an approaching ice cream truck is apparently something you never grow out of.
"Ain't nothing like some good old cold ice cream, on a good old hot day," says one man.
Several adults are some of Cathy Browns regulars.
A one dollar popsicle is hard to pass up. "Good ice cream and a good price," says another man.
When Cathy and Chad are not making planned stops, they hit the neighborhoods.
Children and their parents rush from their homes with money in hand. The ice cream truck stays busy.
Cathy Brown is not in this to make a lot of money.
She says her satisfaction comes from making people happy.
"I had no idea that I was going to enjoy it as much as I have," says Brown.
It is a feeling that is almost automatic.
"Hello sweetheart! Ok, what do you want," asks Brown.
An ice cream truck delivers joy with ever bite.
Cathy Brown is a driver for a Nashville company Angies Ice Cream Truck.
When she is not behind the wheel, you can find her inside the main office at Dupont Elementary School in Old Hickory.Day in the Life, Ice Cream Truck-John Dunn
