Dock Dogs Championship-(Paul Jones)

It's a little early, but it sure feels like the dog days of summer right now.

It sort of looks like it too as hundreds of canine's convene downtown for the Dock Dog Music City Championships. The furry fellas are making quite a splash!

The idea is so simple even a dog can understand it. Run really fast and jump as far off the dock as possible.

Despite high temperatures, not every dog is eager to make the leap.

Diet and plenty of practice seem to be the key to this sport.

The best jump of the day turned in was by a black lab name Quasi with a 24-foot-3-inch leap, but it didn't suprise Quasi's owner Randy Murphy.

Murphy said that Quasi's grandparents are world record holders, so he wasn't suprised about Quasi's high leap.

More fun near 5th and Demonbreun throughout the week. About 150 dogs are trying to land a spot in Sunday's final which can be seen on the Outdoor Channel.
