Child Molester Wanted by the TBI

The TBI needs your help to locate a convicted pedophile who violated his probation. The suspect has connections across middle Tennessee.

Shelton Hammond is a twice convicted child molester whose victims include an 8-year-old girl. The TBI’s Kristin Helm says he committed two sex crimes in Alabama. The last was in 2004, not long before he moved to Tennessee.

“It's the law if you're a convicted sex offender, depending on the severity of your offense, you must register with your local law enforcement agency to be included in the state's sexual offender registry."

Hammond did that in Benton county in 2005 but it wasn't long until he was arrested in Big Sandy on drug charges. Law enforcement has had no contact with him since September of 2005 when he stopped checking in with his probation officer. At that time, Hammond was living in Camden. But he listed a secondary address on Old Fort Parkway in Murfreesboro and also lived in Cookeville as recently as 2005. Police have no idea where he is now, and that concerns the TBI.

“We know that he has drug and alcohol problems which could make him even more dangerous to children now."

The TBI says Hammond may be employed in some kind of construction work and he may be moving around to make himself harder to find.

Shelton Hammond was born in 1977. He's 5'9 and about 150 pounds with brown hair and eyes. If you see him, call 1-800-TBI-FIND.
