Regina Reyerson - 4/26/08

She looks like the lady next door, but police say she's a professional thief.

Regina Reyerson did time for embezzlement in the late 80's. Now Reyerson is on the run from a similar charge.

Fox 17's Scott Couch has the details.

Police say Reyerson was working at Crosslin Supply in Smyrna when she allegedly started helping herself to some of the lumber yard's profits.

Kristin Helm with TBI says, "What she would do is write checks to vendors that didn't exist. Then she would go open bank accounts and deposit those checks into those accounts and basically take the money for herself."

The TBI says Reyerson wrote checks to bogus company's totaling more than $60,000. They say she confessed to police and then disappeared and has been on the run since 1999.

Reyerson and her husband are known to travel in motor homes and may be seeking work at a campground like this or a hotel, but the TBI says Reyerson probably isn't using her real name.

"She's very much a chameleon. She'll change her hair color. She'll change her eye color with contacts and she'll change her name", says Helm.

Reyerson was sentenced to six years at the Tennessee Prison for Women in Nashville after being convicted of fraud over 1,000 in 1989. And she's looking at more hard time if convicted in this case.

Reyerson was born in 1966, she's 5'6, 142-pounds and has visible scars on her left thigh and knee. If you see her, call 1-800-TBI-find.

In addition to the charges she faces here, Reyerson is also wanted for theft in Indiana.
