Wooded Rapist Suspect's DNA Taken At Restaurant-- Sky Arnold
Police secretly obtained the DNA of Wooded Rapist suspect Robert Jason Burdick at a Middle Tennessee Restaurant.
The manager of Tee Gees in LaVergne tells Fox 17 News Brentwood police got the DNA from a fork and a glass Burdick was using Monday.
Police have said the DNA they obtained of Burdick helped them tie him to the Wooded Rapist crimes that go back to 1994.
Police arrested Burdick Thursday in the case and have charged him with a 14 count indictment. Metro Police say they found a number of items in Burdick's home, including guns, two ski masks and a videotape that deals with rape.
As it turns out a small dog may have played a big role in breaking the case.
"If it wouldn't have been for Bailey and her sensitivity of a dog's hearing, I would have never known he was there," said Sharon Cuyler, the owner of Bailey.
Monday morning, Cuyler says she was awakened by her dog growling at a masked man outside their camper van. Cuyler was sleeping in that van with her husband while visiting her son's home in Brentwood.
She says she yelled at the man and called police when he took off. At the time she had never heard of the Wooded Rapist. She now hates to think what could've happened if Bailey wasn't there considering police believe the masked man was Burdick.
"I don't think we would've known he was there and who knows what might have happened at that point. I'm hoping that if he'd tried to get into the house we would've heard him," said Cuyler.
