Two Rivers Baptist Church Vote - Erika Kurre
Members at one local church have been told they can stay after the congregation voted whether or not to oust them.
Two Rivers Baptist Church has been divided after questions over misuse and mismanagement of funding by the pastor and other leaders.
71 members filed a lawsuit nine months ago demanding documentation showing where funds were used.
More than five thousand documents have been handed over but the plaintiffs want more.
Church leaders say this has to stop.
Plaintiff Peggy Lewis says, "They feel like if they can vote the 71 of us out, all their troubles will go away."
Church Attorney Larry Crain says, "It's surprising to me that these members who sued their own church 9 months ago are now surprised that the church body would take stops to disfellowship them. This practice of church discipline is as old as the New Testament."
The 71 plaintiffs were told Sunday evening that there were not enough votes in support of taking away their church membership.
