Delta Queen Docks in Nashville
The famous Delta Queen steamboat docked on the Cumberland River in Nashville today for perhaps the final time.
The 81-year-old riverboat is made of wood from the hull up.
Federal law says boats like that can't have overnight passengers.
The Delta Queen has been operating on exemptions for the past 40-years, allowing overnight passengers.
But the Chairman of the House Transportation Committee says no more.
But riverboat enthusiasts say Congressman James Oberstar of Michigan didn't have any trouble with the exemption until the Paddleboat's owners started using non-union crews.
The Delta Queen faced a similar fate in the 1970's.
Back then, Johnny Cash led a successful charge to lobby Congress for an exemption from the law which was designed for ocean-going vessels.Delta Queen Docks in Nashville
