Nashville Limits Idling of City Owned Cars
The city of Nashville is clamping down on its fleet in an effort to save money on fuel.
Starting August 1, city-owned vehicles will have to limit idling to no more than a minute unless it's required for the job.
And take home cars will also be restricted.
As part of a fleet reduction mandate from the Mayor, the police department is taking 134 vehicles out of service.
A good number of them were driven by school resource officers.
"Precinct commanders are doing everything possible to ensure that marked police cars are at the city's high schools when school begins next month. At least one police car outside each of the comprehensive high schools"
You won't see marked police cars at Metro middle schools this fall.
The fleet reduction is expected to save taxpayers 1-point-4-million dollars.Nashville Limits Idling of City Owned Cars
