Manhunt for Suspect in Rutherford County-Sky Arnold
There's a manhunt underway for a man police say kidnapped a woman and threatened to march onto a school with a gun.
That man is William Irwin of Smyrna.
Authorities say he's responsible for a lock down Monday morning at Smyrna High School.
Police put the school on alert after they say Irwin surprised his wife at a domestic violence office in Murfreesboro.
Authorities say he kidnapped a counselor there and drove her to a Smyrna gas station where he threatened to kidnap his son from Smyrna High.
Irwan was charged with domestic assault in June and his wife had him placed under an order of protection.
"It was our understanding he was armed when he kidnapped this lady from the domestic violence center and we don't want unhappy people going on our campuses with firearms,"
said Rutherford County Sgt. Dan Goodwin.
Authorities put the school on a Code Red alert for an hour until they could secure the grounds.
Under a Code Red students are locked in their rooms.
"We all had to be quiet and lock the doors and everything ," said 10th grade student Abby Offill. "I was just scared someone was in the school or something."
Irwin never showed up at the school.
Police say he was last seen driving a black 2005 Nissan Altima with the tag 653-7CV.Manhunt for Suspect in Rutherford County-Sky Arnold
