It is a parking problem connected to the Nashville International Airport. If you use those off-site parking lots when you travel, prepare to pay more.
    
There are four companies surrounding the airport where you park your car, and take a shuttle.
    
Now, those companies are very upset. It's all about the rising fees the airport is charging them.

Whenever Karen Kendrick takes a flight she always parks her car outside the airport.

"It's very convenient.  We pull up, they take my bags, bring us here, drop off," says Karen Kendrick.

The shuttle buses run from the airport to parking lots along the Donelson Pike corridor.     
   
On March 1st the fees the Airport Authority charges these private companies are going up.

"I just dropped the sheet and said you got to be kidding me," says Fly Away Parking owner J.R. Fraley.

Fly Away Parking currently pays $1.75 when they take their shuttle to the airport, but on Friday the per-trip fee will rise to $6.50.
   
Owner J.R. Fraley says his bill will go from $5,400 dollars a month to $21,000 a month.

"To go from $5,000 a month to $21,000 a month, that's shocking.  For any business that is shocking," says Fraley.

Fraley says he has no choice but to raise his prices.
   
The same is true at Executive Travel & Parking.   
    
Owner David Hornsby is trying to convince his customers to join the fight against higher fees.
   
"The only way they get stopped is if public opinion steps in and says no this is not right," says David Hornsby.

The airport contends the fees help cover the cost of operations and maintenance.   

"We are trying to get into alignment with industry standards with all of our user fees, and off-airport operators have been way under the industry average for years," says Emily Richard with the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority.

As the cost is passed down to customers, people like Karen Kendrick are just finding out.
  
But at least in her case, she'll continue to use the off-site shuttles.

"I'd pay a little bit more.  I've been a loyal customer, so I would stay with them," says Kendrick.

Parking operators say they are being unfairly targeted.
    
They say hotel shuttles only pay 25-cents per trip to the airport. Meanwhile the parking companies are being charged $6.50.
    
They're now encouraging their customers to contact Airport Authority and Metro Council members.
